Your hands cradle the smell of Sunday dinner, all
stove smoke and open windows,
careful not to drop the small plates;
the small of someone’s back will always be there to catch you
if you collapse hard enough
between the slope of tongue
and cheek against your hair
stuck clumsily in Summer heat,
waiting on the water to boil.
