- Just saw a post from someone saying that TikTok has done "irreparable damage" because their fourth grader is talking about getting into makeup and skincare. - I happened to see a TikTok the other day of someone who was talking about this trend, and how it's because there isn't really anything for kids to focus on in pop culture anymore. - Like there isn’t a cultural “childhood” anymore. - There isn't a Britney Spears or Justin Bieber or One Direction equivalent; summer camps, recreational sports, religion, malls, cinemas all seem to be on the decline; most places to hang out -- if they exist in your area at all -- are geared toward adults or adults-with-very-young-kids. I'm not saying all of this is bad, just that they haven't been _replaced_ by anything positive. - I hate that, like, 9 y/os are worried about skincare / aging / etc., but also -- what else are they supposed to be doing? I'm not a parent, so I'm sure I'm out of the loop, but it doesn't seem like there are _any_ hobbies, activities, places, media for that weird tween / not-child-but-kid age anymore. Everything is online. - And, looking it up, I think it's interesting even to look at movies. In 2003, movies were coming out like _Cheaper by the Dozen_, _Holes_, _The Lizzie McGuire Movie_. Last year, it looks like kids got _The Little Mermaid_, a new _Peter Pan_, a new _Mario Bros_, and two others that I've never heard of?? Actually, one is a remake / extension of the _Chicken Run_ franchise. Did _any_ non-remake movies come out in the past couple years??? WHAT ARE KIDS SUPPOSED TO WATCH?! - Also need to research things like sports and summer camps being on the decline. - [ ] [[poor things]] — Connect this to the video on infantilization of millennial women…
