# notes --- - [[spatial notes]] - [[micro-business owners need to be watching the PKM and personal productivity spaces because we have more in common with those creators than min-max gurus]] # summary --- Users are required to constantly context-switch when moving between productivity and notetaking apps. A more helpful notes app would create a _special layer_ at the OS-level so that notes resurface based on where you or are what you're doing. Say you bookmark a novel to read later; spatial notes would mention that whenever you search for the book, or when someone mentions it online. You can also think about this for notes on _people_ (the issue I'm having with [[Anne Napolitano Consulting, Inc.|ANC]]) and process-based notes; you could, for example, have your SOP steps, hints, shortcuts, etc. pop up _as_ your team is working. Just an interesting way to think about how we take notes on our devices. I'm not sure what this would look like... I feel like we may trade organization for convenience -- although if your notes pop up when you need them, does organization matter? Perhaps it's just that I don't trust my tools very much... But I think this presents so many interesting opportunities for [[indiebiz]]. Or, like, another thing to think about. It's a good example of why business owners need to be paying attention to the PKM and broader personal productivity space... And, you know what, I think that's key: we're watching the productivity and knowledge management work and systems of huge companies, even when that's not what we strive to be. We have far more in common with independent developers, writers, people who use their notes to move their own work forward, not to create a mega-corp. # highlights --- > [Sticky notes] are essentially like notifications that appear when you look at specific objects... [they] essentially become a notes layer that augments the real world. Instead of a physical notebook that lists all your notes and tasks in chronological order, post-it notes are scattered around your house but tied to specific places or objects where they are most relevant. > You could argue that note taking is essentially single-player collaboration where you communicate with your future self > What we need instead is a spatial meta layer for notes on the OS-level that lives across all apps and workflows. This would allow you to instantly take notes without having to switch context. Even better yet, the notes would automatically resurface whenever you revisit the digital location you left them at.
