## ‧₊˚✧ *getting things done* ✧˚₊‧
**is there a new way of working?**
work is becoming global, virtual, project-driven (versus employment), frequency of new-ness, 24/7, AI etc… *what will all this produce?* **burn out.**
>[!note] ppl keep talking about burn out from work, but i think that scope is wrong.
**how are things in your head office?**
your brain didn’t evolve to remember, remind, manage relationships between more than four things at one time.
>your mind is for having ideas, not holding them <3
**what do you need to “get done”?**
### what do you need to “get done”?
*horizons of commitment*
**purpose and principles** → what really matters
**vision** → best manifestation of success
**goals** → objectives to achieve
**accountabilities** → key areas / roles / standards to maintain so you can *healthily* get there
**projects** → things to finish
**actions** → things to do *now*
>if two people are responsible for something, no one is. you might be clear, and i might be clear, but as soon as we get together, we just exponentially increased complexity. is this yours or is this mine?
#### mind like water
water isn’t confused about how to deal with stuff; it doesn’t over-react or under-react, it’s perfectly engaged with its environment
>**you don’t need time, you need room**.
#### the flow of life’s work
>anything you want to get done that’s not done yet is work.
### methodology | five steps
capture → clarify → organize → review → engage
**productivity just means producing some desired result.**
>if you go to a party to boogie and you don’t boogie – unproductive partying.
#### capture
**collect what has your attention** … most people constantly rehash what has their attention instead of making any progress on it. *what has your attention?*
empty your head. **mind sweep.** this can take hours. if you don’t get everything out, you’re driven by the “latest and loudest”. can’t trust your system and you can’t trust your head; systems fall away because the return on what you put in isn’t worth it.
#### clarify
**process what it means** … if you stop at capture, you’re just a compulsive list-maker. need to get in-trays and capture tools empty. *empty* doesn’t mean finishing, just clarifying. *what does this thing mean??*
algorithm to determine what they mean:
1. what is this thing?
2. is it actionable? yes or no?
1. if not actionable, trash it, keep it for reference, or incubate it for later.
2. if it is, what’s the very next action you need to take?
1. if it takes two minutes or less, just do it; it’ll take longer to review it than get it done.
2. if it’s more than two minutes, are you the right person to do it? delegate.
3. if you’re the best person to do it, park it in your inventory (defer).
1. if it will take more than one action, you’ve got a project.
#### organize
**put it where it belongs** … where are you going to park that reminder or agenda item? *meaning matches the location*.
for actionable items: project list // calendar // next actions list // waiting for list
subcategorization is where you can get really custom (errands, talk to spouse sublists…)
nonactionable: trash, reference, someday / maybe
#### reflect
**review frequently** … weekly reviews!!! one or two hours of reflection and catch-up time. gives higher perspective. what are all the things you need to look at to locate yourself in space and time?
**REORIENTATION** >> reviews / productivity are reorientation… [[{1.1c3a} stability is connection to, while recovery is reorientation toward, one's location in time and space|reorientation]]…
#### engage
simple *do*
### recalibrating
you will fall off… system will keep you tethered so when a new goal, project, desire, roadblock comes up, you can recalibrate and reengage.
